Cordillera de los Frailles (just outside Sucre)

This was a beautiful trip out into the countryside surrounding Sucre. We walked along an ancient Inca trail with stunning views. Then we visited a rock formation called the devils mouth in which it is rumoured a man disappeared so the locals believe it is an evil place. Below is a picture of me inside it. Then we visited a village called Maragua which is inside a crater created when a meteor hit the earth in pre-hispanic times. The Jalq´a people who live in Maragua are famous for their beautiful weaving. I also visited a museum in Sucre about all the weaving.

View from the Inca trail

In the village of Maragua where they keep goats, cows, pigs and chickens. There was no fencing, the animals just hang around outside the houses

A walk along a steep cavern to the devil´s mouth

Vast nothingness inside the crater

A lady doing the traditional weaving of the Jalq´a indigenous peoples. These people use only red, pink and black as colours for their weaving. Nowadays this is done with chemicals. The designs are very intricate and the lady said a weaving of this size would take her 2 months.

The meteor made some odd features in the landscape

Inside a hotel in Sucre that is 18th century and has been beautifully restored. I did not stay here, it is just for rich people :-(
