Potosí

Potosi is famous because of it´s silver mining. The spanish discovered the silver mines and built many rich buildings. It is now pretty much dried up but miners still persevere hoping to find one last bit. Most miners die within 15  years of respiration problems caused by chemical gases. After a sleepless night in a dorm (unfortunately chose a party hostel) I discovered the best Salteñas in Bolivia (cornish pasty shaped short crust pastry filled with spicy beef and veg they dribble everywhere and are delicious)

On the 8 hour journey from Tupiza to Potosí we stopped here

A Potosí street

Iglesia de San Lorenzo de Carangas carved in the 16th century

Torre de la Compañia de Jesús (1707)

Convento Santa Teresa where I had a tour

Inside the convent - very rich decoration

The internal courtyards were beautiful

The kitchen

The rooms are full of very expensive looking paintings and artworks

Iglesia de la Merced (1555-1687)

The cathedral completed in 1600

The plaza, the yellow building is Casa Nacional de Moneda where Potosís first mint was made
